Sheffield Wednesday man Lee Gregory is wanted by three EFL clubs

Sheffield Wednesday striker Lee Gregory is interested in three EFL clubs as he prepares to become a free agent, according to The Star.

Sheffield Wednesday have had striker Gregory since August 2021, bringing him from Stoke City to strengthen their attacking ranks.

The veteran played 101 games for the club and chipped in with 29 goals and 12 assists in the process. However, the 2023/24 campaign saw a drastic reduction in minutes, which led to him being left out of Danny Rohl’s squad entirely for the second half of the season.

As a result, the 35-year-old is expected to leave Hillsborough when his contract expires this summer.

His exit has yet to be officially confirmed, but it looks like Gregory’s situation is already attracting interest.

The Star reports that the Sheffield Wednesday fringe man is of interest to three EFL clubs. The teams aren’t named, nor is the level at which he plays, but there are already a trio of teams chasing Gregory.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

I’m moving from Sheffield Wednesday

It seems only a matter of time before Gregory is confirmed to leave Sheffield Wednesday. He will carry on with the best wishes of supporters and team-mates alike, with the Sheffield-born forward proving a valuable asset at Hillsborough over the past three years.

His leadership and experience at the top has been of great importance on numerous occasions and although he hasn’t played as much on the pitch this season, you would have liked Gregory to have maintained his positive influence off the pitch.

Gregory has made 15 appearances overall this season, chipping in with just one goal.

Is there much left to give?

Time will tell exactly what comes of Gregory’s future, but many would back him to find success in front of goal again at his next club.

While he boasts the valuable traits of experience and leadership mentioned earlier, the Sheffield Wednesday man is also a strong presence at the top of the pitch and one who knows very well where the back of the net is.

Another Championship move may not await, but League One is a level where Gregory could certainly find success.

Only last season, the former Millwall and Stoke City player conjured up a respectable output of 11 goals and six assists in 47 games in all competitions. With a similar level of playing time, many would back him to manage similar numbers once again.
