Manchester United are set to announce the transfer of Joshua Zirkzee amid his debut decision

Manchester United could announce a deal to sign Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee as early as today.

United have agreed a fee with the Serie A side for the Netherlands international and he is expected to become their first signing of the summer. He will undergo a medical examination today.

Zirkzee’s international commitments have now come to an end after Holland were knocked out of the European Championship by England in the semi-final on Wednesday. Zirkzee made two substitute appearances at the Euros.

The Manchester Evening News reported last week that United’s potential deal for Zirkzee could rise to £46m with agents’ fees. Sources in Italy said United could spend up to £13m in fees to complete the deal.

United want a striker to back up Rasmus Hojlund after injury-prone Anthony Martial was released. Zirkzee scored 12 goals in 37 games for Bologna as they qualified for the Champions League last season.

Zirkzee will not be available for United’s first four pre-season games and it is unclear whether he will link up with the team for the South Carolina leg of their pre-season tour of the United States.
