Converting the basement storage space to the apartment would be “of great benefit” to Bradford

Converting a basement bin storage area into a one-bed flat would be “of great benefit” to the town centre, according to a developer.

8 Duke Street, at the junction with Piccadilly in Bradford city centre, is a Grade II listed former solicitors office.

A large part of the building has recently been converted into apartments.

Now a planning application has been submitted to Bradford Council by a Mr Choudry to convert a basement bin storage area into a new one-bed flat.

The application says the space is unused as a courtyard area in the building is now used to store bins as “residents find this easier to use”.

Although in the basement, the space has windows.

The application says: “We feel that the development has been well considered and would be of great benefit to the Bradford City Center Conservation Area.

“The building will provide a building that complements the regeneration of the Bradford Town Center conservation area.

“We hope the proposal will stimulate economic activity by creating a level playing field.”

A decision on the application is expected in September.
