Images of a bloodied Leeds fan emerge as police update on the matter

A Leeds United supporter was left covered in blood following a violent altercation after the Championship play-off semi-final at Norwich City’s Carrow Road.

The brutal incident unfolded when the Leeds fan allegedly got involved with a group of Norwich supporters over chants referencing past tragedies after Sunday afternoon’s game. The victim, a 60-year-old man, claimed he was punched outside the stadium after the play-off match ended in a draw, reports the Mirror.

“One man has been charged and a second man has been released on bail following an incident in Norwich yesterday afternoon,” a Norfolk Police spokesman said in an update on Monday. “Two men were arrested after 2pm when a man in his 60s reported being hit outside Norwich City Stadium in Carrow Road.

“An object, confirmed not to be a knife, is believed to have been thrown at the victim who suffered a cut to the chin. The victim was seen by paramedics at the scene and did not require further medical attention.

“A man in his late teens was arrested at the scene on suspicion of GBH assault and a public order offense and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Center for questioning. He was bailed to appear at Wymondham PIC on 13 July 2024.

“Graham Riches, 50, of Dyer Close, Horsford, Norwich, was arrested and charged with assaulting an emergency worker, common assault and possession of class A drugs. He was bailed to appear at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on June 7.”

A Twitter user under the handle @DorsetHottub revealed that his father was the victim of the alleged attack and later posted a picture. He claimed he was triggered by chants about Galatasaray – a chant of tragedy aimed at Leeds fans.

Leeds United fans have historically been targeted with offensive chants from supporters of the opposition team, most notably the fatal stabbing of two of their own in Istanbul before a match against Galatasaray in 2000.

Leeds fans Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight tragically died before their UEFA Cup semi-final match against Turkish side Galatasaray in 2000. Both men were killed following a street brawl instigated by a local resident.
