What’s happening July 13-19, 2024

Here’s a rundown of some of the main events taking place in South Leeds next week. For complete listings, go to our What’s on the calendar here.

We start Saturday morning with Middleton Makers Market, 10am-2pm, at Middleton Park Circus. Lots of lovely handmade items including clothing, jewellery, soaps and food; all made by locals.

The Community of Sao Tome and Principe (STP). in Leeds, they are celebrating the country’s independence day with a barbecue and market in Cross Flatts Park on Saturday from 11am to 7pm.

The Hunslet ClubThe biggest event of the year is annual Summer Gala. It will take place on Saturday from 12pm to 5pm at The Hunslet Club, Hillidge Road, LS10 1BP. Organizers promise an afternoon of family fun with rides, inflatables, donkeys, window displays, DJs, food, drink and more. This free event is for the whole community to come and enjoy, so bring the whole family. Our bar and shop will be open to purchase food and drink.

Another summer fair is held at Court of the Cardinal Extra Care Scheme, Cardinal Road, Beeston, Saturday 1-3pm.

Church of St. LukeMalvern Road, Beeston Hill, LS11 8PD serve their monthly family breakfast at 9.30am, you are welcome to stay for morning worship at 10.30am but you are not required to.

Sunday also sees the monthly farmers market from 10am to 4pm with lots of good food straight from the producers at Armories Square, Leeds Dock, LS10 1LT.

Hunslet Nelson Cricket ClubGreat Preston CC’s First XI on Sunday at Gipsy Lane, Beeston, LS11 5TT, 1pm kick-off.

The band Hands Across Ceilidh is playing Middleton Park on the bandstand by the lake from 2-4pm on Sunday.

Friends of Cross Flatts Park hosting Beeston Dog Show Sunday, 2:30-4:30 p.m., with registration from 1:30 p.m. In addition to the dogs, Swing Of Things will feature live music, refreshments will be served in the Watsonian Pavilion, and free craft activities will be available for children.

There are also a number of police contact points this week. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions Leeds South Borough Policing Team in an informal setting. On Tuesday they will be at Hunslet Community Hub & Library in and in the central atrium of the White Rose Shopping Centre, both from 10am to 12pm. On Wednesdays, they are at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library between 10am and 12pm and outside St Matthew’s Community Center on Holbeck Moor Road between 10.30am and 12pm. Finally, they will be at Beeston Community Hub & Library on Town Street on Thursday from 10am to 12pm.

Tuesday night Oddsocks Theatre bring their hilarious take on Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar to Middleton Park. The free show starts at 7pm, bring your own chairs or blankets and dress for the weather.

The SEN-Tastic the group meets on Thursdays. It is open to anyone caring for children with special needs, parents, siblings, carers, carers and grandparents and offers coffee, friendship, advice and support. The group operates from 9:15-10:30 Church of St. LukeMalvern Road, Beeston, LS11 8PD.

Leeds Baby Bank will be at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library on Thursday from 10am to 12pm, providing support for people to access support services, community activities and longer term support. It also provides families with an essential complement of items such as diapers, wipes, formula and toiletries.

And finally, there will be an exhibition of artworks made in the frame Creative communities project at St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, Beeston, LS11 8PD, Friday 12.30pm to 3pm.
