The travel fan shares a simple trick to take an extra carry-on bag with you on vacation

Nothing puts a damper on a holiday like paying a large sum of money for extra suitcases or carry-on luggage.

Traditionally, airlines have always charged a fee if you want to put any baggage in your hold, usually limiting it to around 22kg. But recently there has also been a tightening of carry-on restrictions, with most airlines charging for more than one bag under the seat.

Even if you are only going away for a few days, this small amount of space is not ideal. But a seasoned social media travel expert says there may be a way to avoid this by allowing you to take more belongings on the plane.

The tip was shared on TikTok by Guus, also known as @dondrivero, who often shares useful travel and airplane tips with his followers. A few of these have gone viral, with over 70,000 likes on his videos.

And his recent carry-on trick seems to have resonated with tourists, as it has been viewed more than 1.5 million times at the time of writing.

He hailed it as “the best travel hack to keep you from spending more money than necessary,” and countless people weighed in on the comments to express how eager they were to try it. It also couldn’t be simpler to do, and fans of the guy claim it really works.

According to Guus, if you have some extra goods that don’t fit in your carry-on, simply go to the duty free section of the airport after going through security. Buy whatever you like, even if it’s small – but make sure you get a carry bag.

Then all you have to do is put your things in this carry-on bag, which you should be able to take with you on the plane without any problems. The video’s captions read: “You are allowed to take duty-free purchases on the plane at no additional cost.
