Police have issued a two-word warning to Coventry football fans ahead of the Euro 2024 final

Police have announced they will step up patrols this weekend ahead of the highly anticipated Euro 2024 clash between England and Spain. Fans are expected to turn out in droves to cheer on the three lions.

Thousands of people are expected to converge on venues across the city this weekend, prompting a warning from West Midlands Police. Officers urged people to “celebrate responsibly”, with pubs and clubs expected to be busy on Sunday (July 14).

Chief Superintendent Paul Drover, of Coventry Police, said England reaching the UEFA Euro 2024 final was “fantastic”. He told CoventryLive they will be in the city to prevent trouble on Sunday.

Detective Constable Simon Inglis said they had already seen a number of football-related domestic abuse offenses so far during the Euros. He said it was “likely” to see more incidents reported in the coming days, but “robust measures” were being taken to protect victims, who in an emergency were urged to call 999.

Officers will also be on the lookout for drink or drug driving this weekend (July 14 and 15). Fans who get into drink driving have been warned they will face “serious consequences”.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “We are committed to keeping our roads safe all summer and that includes catching those who are putting innocent lives at risk by drink driving. Even one drink can significantly affect your ability to drive.

“Alcohol impairs judgment and reaction time, making it incredibly dangerous to drive. If you plan to drink, leave your car keys at home and arrange a safe ride home in advance.
