A Wiltshire man who sought help with his abusive behavior is encouraging others to ‘invest in themselves’ by seeking change.

The man, whom we have named Anthony, told us that he realized the need for change when he noticed how much his actions were negatively impacting his relationships at home and at work.

He said: “I felt stuck, constantly struggling with anxiety, anger and frustration, which affected my relationships with my wife and family and my ability to achieve my goals.

“This realization hit me hard when I saw that despite my efforts, I wasn’t progressing and making the impact I wanted. I knew I had to find a new approach to break this cycle.”

Anthony contacted domestic abuse charity FearFree, joining their behavior change course. He said the course was a game changer for him.

He said: “It gave me practical tools and techniques to effectively manage my anxiety and frustration. The course taught me how to recognize and challenge my negative thought patterns, replacing them with positive and constructive ones.

He added: “It also gave me a supportive space where I could share my experiences and learn to overcome challenges. This support and guidance was crucial in helping me implement the changes I needed.”

A better mindset

Life for Anthony has improved since completing the course, leading to better relationships and overall well-being.

He told us that he has gained confidence, is more motivated and can approach challenges with a clearer and calmer mindset.

“This change has also increased my productivity and effectiveness in my professional life, leading to greater satisfaction and success. I no longer feel overwhelmed by obstacles, but see them as opportunities to grow and learn,” he added .

It encourages others to acknowledge the need for help, saying that it’s okay to ask for it and that change is possible.

“Don’t be afraid to invest in yourself,” he said, “Surround yourself with supportive people who understand your journey and can offer encouragement and guidance.

“Remember that change doesn’t happen overnight, but with consistent effort and the right tools, you can overcome challenges and create a better and more fulfilling life. Be patient, stay positive and believe in your ability to change,” he said.
