Communities are beginning to assess the damage after the water recedes

MORETOWN, Vt. (WCAX) – Road crews begin work and communities assess the damage as the long road to recovery begins.

Construction vehicles line a bridge that was completely washed out on Route 100B over Dowsville Brook in Moretown. Repair crews get to work fixing that bridge.

It is just one of many roads that have been affected. State roads across the state are slowly reopening as crews make repairs. But it won’t be smooth everywhere.

Route 5 at Mill Road in Barnet washed away, taking out large areas of the Barnet Village shop and exposing the foundation and pipes beneath the building.

There is good news for the commute. Exit 11 on Interstate 89 in Richmond was reopened Thursday evening.

But other communities face traffic problems. There are closures along Route 15 from Cambridge to Johnson.

Route 2 is still closed in Plainfield. Route 302 in the Barre City and Barre Town area is still closed, and sections of Route 5 to Lyndon at Barnet are closed. For updated state road closures, visit New England 511.

Gov. Phil Scott will hold a news briefing at 10 a.m. Friday to provide an update on the state’s ongoing flood response. Watch this live on WCAX.
