Will Southgate remain England boss?

The FA will try to convince Gareth Southgate to stay on as England manager after Euro 2024 – even if he doesn’t take home the trophy.

England booked their place in the European Championship final with a 2-1 win over the Netherlands on Wednesday.

According to The Times, the FA are desperate to keep him on board regardless of the outcome of Sunday’s final against Spain.

Southgate, who has been linked with the Manchester United job, is under contract with England until December but FA chief executive Mark Bullingham plans to hold further talks with him at the end of Euro 2024.

Any new deal would take him to the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico – which would mark his 10th year in office.

It has previously been suggested that Southgate could step down after this summer’s tournament.

PSG anchorman Manuel Ugarte remains a serious option.

But with manager Erik ten Hag a fan of Fiorentina’s Amrabat, Ashworth is prepared to consider trying a new deal for the Moroccan.

United had an option to buy Amrabat for £21.4m.

The Red Devils are understood to have ruled out activating that.

Fiorentina have given United until July 21 to complete any new loan deal.
