Metrolink was hit by major disruption after the overhead line was damaged

Metrolink passengers have been warned to expect major disruption following damage to an overhead line this evening (July 11). The damage is said to have occurred between Trafford Bar and Old Trafford stations.

“Engineers are currently on site and a number of service changes are in place,” a Metrolink spokesman told the Manchester Evening News.

It means there is currently no service on the Altrincham line and there are service changes between: Eccles to MediaCityUK; From Trafford Center to Warf Side; Manchester Airport and East Didsbury to Firswood.

All other services on other lines to Manchester (Ashton, Bury, Oldham and Rochdale) will arrive in the city center and then return, the spokesman said.

The disruption will affect people leaving Manchester after a busy Friday night in the city centre. The spokesman added that “there is a chance that services will be impacted in the morning” and passengers are encouraged to check before travelling.

Just before this evening’s disruption, no trams were running between Rochdale town center and Oldham Mumps due to a landslide.

Tickets and passes can be used on these buses: 18, 19, 243, 263, 281, 285, 286, 250, X50, 171, 172, 85, 86, 29, 33, 50,53, 79.
