£600k player now expected to snub Leeds United and join Championship rival

Leeds United are reportedly closing in on confirmation of yet another summer exit.

The Whites have already let go of 12 players since the beginning of the transfer window, with 49ers Enterprises working quickly not only to free up funds, but shift some of the deadwood.

Archie Gray is undoubtedly Leeds’ highest profile exit so far, having left to join Tottenham Hotspur for £40 million at the beginning of the month.

Charlie Cresswell, Jamie Shackleton and Sam Greenwood are among those to have followed, while returning loanees Marc Roca and Diego Llorente have also managed to be moved on permanently.

But with over a month-and-a-half to go until the end of the window, Leeds’ exits are certainly not expected to stop there.

Major update provided on Liam Cooper’s future at Leeds

It is Leeds’ big-name stars that continue to attract the headlines with Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter, Glen Kamara and more all having been linked elsewhere.

However, at this stage, Leeds have resisted all other interest in their key men since Gray’s exit, but an update on their chances of keeping Liam Cooper has now been provided.

Cooper is currently without a club following the expiration of his contract at Elland Road on June 30, but has been offered fresh terms.

At this stage, Cooper has held off from signing another deal amid interest from three other Championship clubs, and the fact that it is only a one-year deal on the table.

Blackburn Rovers are believed to be one of the sides in talks, and Cooper’s stance on a move to Ewood Park has now been revealed.

According to journalist Elliott Jackson, there is now a ‘willingness’ from both Cooper and Blackburn to get a deal done.

As per the Lancashire Telegraph, it is said Cooper is even willing to take a pay-cut on his previous Leeds wage in order to get it over the line, as he goes in search of regular game time. He started just one league match after New Year’s Day last season.

Sheffield United also interested in Cooper

Amid their ongoing takeover saga, Sheffield United have been working hard on bringing in free transfers to rebuild the squad after relegation.

Leeds know that all to well already, with the Blades having tempted Jamie Shackleton in joining them instead of signing a new deal at his boyhood club.

Sam McCallum has also been brought in after his release from Norwich City, and according to the same report of Blackburn’s interest in Cooper, the Blades are also keen on the £600k ace.

Blackburn would undoubtedly be able to offer Cooper more guarantees in terms of game time, but the chance of a promotion push at Sheffield United is more likely. It will be interesting to see how it develops.
