Aston Villa vs Liverpool LIVE!

Villa Park hosts the final game of the Premier League season tonight as Unai Emery’s side look to finish with a thump against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. Victory for the hosts tonight will guarantee them a place in the top four and qualification for next season’s Champions League.

It was a remarkable moment for Villa under Emery, but they still have their work cut out for them to end an excellent campaign in superb fashion, especially given their semi-final defeat in the Conference League. With a four-point lead over Tottenham with two games to go, it would be a huge disappointment if they go down at home.

Liverpool will be unwilling to offer any compensation in Klopp’s final away game as Reds manager. Both teams have some injury concerns, with the visitors likely to be without Andrew Robertson. Catch all the latest updates from Aston Villa vs Liverpool LIVE via Standard sporthis match blog!

Mixed emotions for Jurgen Klopp on the bow of Villa Park

18:15 , Mark Mayo

Jurgen Klopp has mixed feelings about Villa Park as he returns as Liverpool manager for the final time.

The ground witnessed a pivotal moment in their title-winning season when Andy Robertson and Sadio Mane scored in the final three minutes to snatch a 2-1 victory in November 2018 that extended their unbeaten start to that campaign and s -they felt extremely significant.

However, the following season they returned as champions and were incredibly beaten 7-2.

Asked about his memories of Villa Park, Klopp said: โ€œTalk about that game (2-1 win). I had another night at Aston Villa…

“Honestly, it was a really special game when we won 2-1. At half-time we had a bit of a situation in the dressing room – a bit of a row between two players, but you won’t get the name from me (Robertson previously admitted). it was him and Mane) – and then we were able to calm down and change the game, which was really special.

โ€œThis is the time when you go for absolutely anything, when everything is on the edge and things like that can happen as long as you sort yourself out as quickly as possible.

“It was a very important one, a great feeling after the game absolutely.

“This group of players was really special. It meant so much and things can happen when you work together for a long time, especially, that’s normal.”

The Aston Villa ace rates Jurgen Klopp among the best

John McGinn has said the Premier League will miss Jurgen Klopp.

The Liverpool boss takes charge of his final away game with the Reds tonight before a bye on Sunday.

“They’re definitely slightly different, but they’re both up there with the best managers in the world,” he said.

“The league has been very lucky to have Klopp. He obviously has a very strong identity and team.

“He’s going to be missed in the league, for sure.”
