The Marblehead hydrant flush set will take place this week

MARBLEHEAD, MA — Marblehead’s annual hydrant flush is set for this week, with residents told to expect the possibility of discolored water on a given morning.

Flushing began early Monday morning at the borders of Swampscott and Salem and will work toward downtown each successive night. Flushing takes place between midnight and 7am

It is expected to end on Friday.

Residents may notice water running from some hydrants during the day as part of normal flushing procedures.

Those experiencing discolored water in the early morning are urged to run cold water only in the kitchen sink until the color clears — which could take about 20 minutes. Residents should refrain from using hot water or washing clothes until the discoloration disappears.

Those who continue to experience problems can contact the Marblehead Water Department at 781-631-0102.
