Virgil van Dijk Liverpool transfer theory emerges as announcement made after move

Virgil van Dijk is “thinking about quitting Liverpool” after retiring from the Netherlands national team, a Dutch journalist claimed on a television program broadcast in the country.

This is how some interpret the comments made by Liverpool’s captain after the Netherlands’ exit from the European Championship. After the semi-final defeat to England, Van Dijk faced questions about his future.

“I have no idea at the moment,” the player told reporters. “I will think carefully this summer about what I want at club level and as an international. Then we will try again, but first we will recover.”

Those remarks did not go down well in his homeland. “That says enough,” said journalist Valentine Driessen Vandaag Inside Oranje (via fcupdate.nl). “He’s thinking about quitting Liverpool and the Dutch national team. So that’s already on his mind. Then you really have to say goodbye.” Former player-turned-pundit Johan Derksen also claimed: “It’s not unwise.”

After one Liverpool defender was told to say goodbye, another has said goodbye following the announcement that Adam Lewis has signed for Morecambe on a free transfer after being released by the Reds earlier this month.

After his new club confirmed his arrival along with 14 other players, Lewis shared a message on social media. “19 years at a special club (Liverpool) is over,” the player captioned an Instagram post.
