Road closed after car crashes into lamppost on notorious curve

A road in Netherley has been closed after a car lost control and crashed into a pole.

Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire and Rescue were called to Childwall Valley Road shortly after the incident, which happened at 8.39pm today, May 6. Footage seen by the ECHO showed the black car turning the corner near Lea Park Golf Club before skidding onto the pavement and crashing into a lamp post, knocking it over.

The car then flipped onto its side and crashed into the garden wall of a nearby house.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said two people traveling in the car, a man and a woman, suffered minor injuries.

The road remained partially closed as of 9.45pm while authorities waited for recovery services to arrive.

In November 2023, the ECHO reported complaints from residents about the area as there had been “dozens of accidents” on the tight bend.

Laura Collard, 36, said: “We’ve lived here for four or five years and when we first moved in we were told a car had gone through the back fence about three years before. We didn’t think much of it until it happened while we were living there.

“We had to install a CCTV camera in case a car comes through the back. We’ve caught cars going through the back wall next door and people who live across the street from us.

“We no longer use our back garden just in case someone comes by, we’re lucky to have a front garden we can use. Our next door neighbors don’t even mow their lawn anymore or go out the back because it just happens over and over again. It’s scary.”
