Boy, man and woman killed in Birmingham shooting

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A man, woman and baby boy were killed in a shooting in Birmingham Saturday night.

According to Officer Truman Fitzgerald of the Birmingham Police Department, at approximately 5:20 p.m., officers received a call from a third party regarding a vehicle accident in the 1700 block of Indian Summer Drive. Police on the scene learned that a shooting had taken place.

Police saw the blue sedan in the front yard of a bullet-riddled residence. Police observed a man, a woman and a small child inside the vehicle. The three people were shot and pronounced dead by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel.

Fitzgerald said the preliminary investigation shows police believe there was an interaction between the occupants of the victim’s vehicle and the suspect’s vehicle. Fitzgerald said that after the shooting, the driver of the victims’ vehicle drove a short distance before crashing into decorations in the front yard of a residence. He said most of the shots were fired in the Echo Highlands Park parking area.

No one is in custody in connection with this case. Those with information about the shooting are urged to call BPD at 205-254-1764 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.

Fitzgerald said they are looking for surveillance footage because of the number of homes in the area. He said Crime Stoppers honors surveillance video submissions the same way as anonymous tips, which could lead to a cash reward.
