Where you can barbecue in Bristol this summer – and where you can’t

Barbecues are a great way to get together with friends and family during the summer months. Parks and beaches are fantastic places for larger gatherings, but be sure to follow these rules when flipping burgers or cooking corn outdoors.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to choosing a green space to gather in Bristol. However, there are some rules to follow, set by Bristol City Council.

Barbecues are allowed in most parks and green spaces in Bristol. However, your grill needs to be store-bought, not homemade, placed on the ground on legs so the grass doesn’t get burned, supervised when lit, and completely cooled before being tossed in the trash.

As well as the parks, there are a number of beaches just a stone’s throw from Bristol city centre, perfect for a barbecue on a sunny day. Make sure you follow the rules for barbecuing at the beach to avoid any fines.

Weston-Super-Mare Beach is a popular choice for those in Bristol. Barbecues are allowed here, as long as they are raised off the ground, not placed under buildings or next to anything that could be damaged by fire, extinguished and removed from the beach, and not thrown in bins or buried in sand.
