Tyrell Malacia returns to individual training at Manchester United after a long injury absence

Manchester United have confirmed that left-back Tyrell Malacia has returned to individual training after being sidelined for more than a year.

The 24-year-old, who has been sidelined since last summer with a meniscus injury in his knee, is working diligently on his fitness program and making strides towards a comeback.

United said Malacia returned to Carrington “earlier this week” and was pictured training individually under the close supervision of medical staff.

The Netherlands international joined United from Feyenoord in 2022 and has made 39 appearances for the club so far.

Malacia last featured for United in the 2-1 home win against Fulham at the end of the 2022-23 campaign, having missed the entirety of last season.

United manager Erik ten Hag previously noted the significance of Malacia’s absence, highlighting its impact on the team’s performance last season.

“We’re talking about one of my biggest frustrations being there,” Ten Hag said of the absence of Luke Shaw and Malacia.

“You can accept in a position where one player is not available, but when two players are not available during the season, it is very frustrating.

“Because it’s also very difficult to catch up as a team, but we did the best we could, but of course it’s a disadvantage.”

United added that Malacia is “doing everything he can to regain his fitness” ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Ten Hag’s side face Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 10, followed by Premier League games against Fulham and Brighton in the same month.
