Kate Middleton has been greeted with cheers at Wimbledon as she makes a rare public appearance

The Princess of Wales made a brave and rare public appearance at Wimbledon. Kate, who announced earlier this year that she is battling cancer, was greeted with cheers as she entered the royal box.

She is attending the men’s final at Wimbledon with her daughter Princess Charlotte. It is her second public engagement since announcing her cancer diagnosis.

Kate, who is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, will present the trophy to the winner of the clash between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. The princess arrived at the SW19 tennis tournament less than an hour before the finals were due to start on Sunday afternoon.

She met players including Emma Răducanu. Kate and Charlotte were greeted with cheers and applause as they took their seats.

Kate smiled widely and waved to the crowd. The two then sat down next to her sister, Pippa Matthews.

Kate underwent chemotherapy. She made her first public appearance since announcing her cancer diagnosis in March at the Trooping the Color ceremony in London last month.

At the start of the tournament, Kate paid tribute to two-time champion Sir Andy Murray. She said he should be “so proud” after missing out on a last chance at Wimbledon.

In a personally signed message on social media, the princess wrote: “An incredible career at #Wimbledon comes to an end. You should be so proud @andy_murray. On behalf of everyone, thank you! C.” Sir Andy was due to play mixed doubles with Emma Răducanu, but the former US Open champion pulled out of the match, saying she had stiffness in her right wrist.
