Wiltshire in pictures: museum, shaving and fighting on the golf course

At any given time there are dozens of photographers in Wiltshire capturing snapshots of life, from news to sport and live entertainment.

Here is a selection of images taken in the county in recent days.

Sport galore: A multi-million pound sports centre, including competitive cycling facilities, a floodlit 3G pitch and a BMX track, opened this week.

It has promised to offer sport and leisure for all ages and will later introduce new activities at a Family Open Day.

A moment in time: A ceremony took place at Silverwood School in Rowde, burying a time capsule containing objects and letters from children.

A new £38.5 million campus will be built at the school to include a two-storey teaching building with a hydrotherapy pool, a new all-weather sports pitch, playing fields and parking.

The old location was closed during the Covid pandemic.

The exhibition traces the history of the Wiltshire town to the modern era and showcases its large collection of modern art.

Bakers had to get creative due to wartime rationing, using alternative ingredients such as vinegar.

Close shave: Maisy, 12, from Swindon, raised more than £1,000 from a charity shave.

She chose to support Wiltshire Air Ambulance after her grandmother Julie suffered a cardiac arrest at home on May 30.

They want the 44-acre site to be protected from future housing developments. They held signs that read “kids need nature” and “keep the golf course wild” on Sunday.
