Norwich man named after Leeds United attack as police confirm no knife involved

A man has been charged after an incident which left a Leeds United fan with his chin and throat cut, while it was confirmed no knife was used. Graham Riches will appear at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on June 7 after being charged with assaulting an emergency worker, common assault and possession of Class A drugs.

A 60-year-old Whites fan told Norfolk police he was punched and hit by an object that left him bleeding from the chin and neck outside Carrow Road after Sunday’s play-off semi-final . After being treated by paramedics, the supporter did not require any additional medical treatment.




Police have now confirmed the teenager has been arrested on suspicion of assault and grievous bodily harm and has been bailed a public order offence. A third suspect was also being pursued, according to police, on Sunday night.

A statement from Norfolk Police said: “A man has been charged and a second man bailed following an incident in Norwich yesterday afternoon. Two men were arrested after 2pm when a man in his 60s reported being punched outside Norwich City’s stadium in Carrow Road.

“An object, confirmed not to be a knife, is believed to have been thrown at the victim who suffered a cut to the chin. The victim was seen by paramedics at the scene and did not require further medical attention.

“A man in his late teens was arrested at the scene on suspicion of GBH assault and a public order offense and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Center for questioning. He was bailed to appear at Wymondham PIC on 13 July 2024.

“Graham Riches, 50, of Dyer Close, Horsford, Norwich, was arrested and charged with assaulting an emergency worker, common assault and possession of class A drugs. He was bailed to appear at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on June 7.”
