Leicester City and Leeds are set to be beaten in the race to sign the free agent midfielder

Leicester City will not sign Callum O’Hare with the attacking midfielder rumored to be on his way to Sheffield United.

City were linked with O’Hare a few weeks ago as they look for a replacement for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. The 26-year-old would have been a cheap option for City, with the midfielder leaving Coventry at the end of his contract last month to become a free agent.

But it looks like he will stay in the championship. Alan Nixon reports that recently relegated Sheffield United have jumped to the front of the race to sign O’Hare and look set to take him to Bramall Lane despite prominent interest from Leeds.

It’s no surprise that O’Hare would have so many suitors given his championship-level numbers. Last season, after returning from a cruciate ligament injury, he scored 10 goals and set up four more in 36 appearances in all competitions.

City have made good progress in the transfer window so far this month, bringing in three signings in Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Michael Golding and Caleb Okoli. The arrival of Abdul Fatawu is to be announced soon, while Wilfred Ndidi has also signed a new contract.

But they are still without an attacking midfielder after Dewsbury-Hall was sold to Chelsea for £30million. City have been linked with several big bids in that area, including Juventus’ Matias Soule and Celtic’s Matt O’Riley.
