‘No doubt’ player will join Manchester United – ‘very constructive’ talks to find deal

Last Tuesday, Bild reported that Manchester United are ready to offer the €50 million fee demanded by Bayern Munich for Matthijs de Ligt.

Two days later, Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg said the defender wanted to join the Red Devils immediately.

The 24-year-old has agreed a five-year contract with Manchester United and this is supported by Fussball News, who then provide the latest information on the case.

Manchester United have opened talks with Bayern and this has been “harmonious and very constructive”, without yet agreeing a deal for the centre-back’s transfer.

It is claimed that the Premier League side are ready to offer €50m and need to work out the details of the deal.

Erik ten Hag’s team and the Bavarian club must agree on the fixed amount, bonuses and most importantly the payment method (number of years to pay back the deal).

Manchester United wanted to secure the move for the Netherlands international at the weekend. That hasn’t happened, but Fussball News says the delay “leaves no one in doubt” as to which deal will go through to take the player to Old Trafford.

The report claims that the transfer could be completed in the “coming days”, most likely after the financial details are settled between Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

On Sunday, Ten Hag’s side completed the signing of Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna. De Ligt is set to join his compatriot soon in England.
