Liverpool transfer hit as Kvaratskhelia set to sign new deal with Napoli

There has been a breakthrough regarding the future of Napoli superstar Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, with reports that he is now set to sign a new contract.

So say Corriere dello Sport, who quote the Georgian’s agent as saying that the player’s fate is now in Napoli’s hands.

It would mark a stunning turnaround for the reported Liverpool transfer target, whose father earlier this summer said the wide man would look to leave Napoli in the off-season.

It has been reported that ‘Kvaradona’ is unhappy about having FOUR managers in one year for the deposed Serie A champions.

Antonio Conte, the new manager at the Diego Maradona Stadium, has identified Kvaratskhelia as a key figure in his squad and there have been meetings over a renewal in recent weeks.

The 23-year-old is under contract at Napoli until 2027 and was previously reported to be unhappy with the difference between his own contract and that of strike partner Victor Osimhen.

PSG, Liverpool, Barca as Kvaratskhelia

The Nigerian has a salary of more than 10 million euros, while Kvara’s deal – signed in 2022 – is worth 1.5 million euros.

Paris Saint-Germain are said to have been turned down in a €200m bid to sign both Kvaratskhelia and Osimhen but were rebuffed by Napoli.

Kvaratskhelia is now considered non-transferable by his club and his agent, Mamuka Jugeli, has confirmed that a new deal is on the table.

There have been talks between the player’s representatives and club president Aurelio De Laurentiis in Germany during this summer’s Euro 2024.

Kvara’s conversations with Naples

Another meeting reportedly took place last week in Milan between Kvaratskhelia’s agent and new sporting director Giovanni Manna.

Although Napoli will not be in the Champions League next season after a poor title defence, Kvaratskhelia remains focused on securing silverware for his club.

“Kvaratskhelia without the Champions League? Then he wants to win the championship,” Jugeli told Russian journalist Nobel Arustamyan.

“For the future everything depends on the president of Napoli. If he thinks about selling Kvara, he will. If it wants renewal, it will renew.”

Liverpool’s Diaz doubts it

Following these initial talks, Napoli are now awaiting a response from the winger camp.

Liverpool are listed alongside PSG and Barcelona as suitors for Kvaratskhelia, with question marks over the long-term future of Luis Diaz and a potential left-back spot available in Arne Slot’s squad.

However, should a new deal be agreed, it appears that sporting director Richard Hughes may have to look elsewhere for his first big-name signing.
