A body has been found in the search for British teenager Jay Slater, who went missing on holiday in Tenerife, police said. A spokesman for the Civil Guard issued a statement today confirming the sad outcome.

They said “After 29 days of constant searches, the lifeless body of the young man was found in the Masca area. The discovery was possible thanks to the tireless and discreet searches carried out by the Civil Guard during these 29 days”.




“All indications are that the body is that of the young British man who went missing on June 17, pending full identification. Initial inquiries indicate that he suffered an accident/fall in the area where he was found.” The news brings to an end the massive operation to find the 19-year-old from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, who went missing on Monday 17 June.

Authorities have issued a major update ending the search for the missing 19-year-old, who went missing on Monday, June 17. Jay, an apprentice bricklayer, had been on the island with two friends for a three-day music festival.


The three friends went out on Sunday night, before Jay broke away from the group, leaving a car rave with two Brits he had befriended in a bar gang. The teenager returned with them to an Airbnb in the middle of a rural village, where he stayed overnight.

Jay went missing on the morning of Monday, June 17, as he tried to return to the tourist town of Los Christianos, where he was staying with his friends Lucy and Brad.

Lancashire Police release a statement

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “Today (Monday, July 15) we have been notified by the Guardia Civil that they have found the body of a man and that the indications are that this is Jay Slater.

“While no official identification has been made at this stage, our thoughts are very much with Jay’s family at this time and we continue to offer our support.”

Charity LBT Global, released an update on behalf of Jay’s family as they shared additional details about the human remains that were previously found.

The statement read: “LBT Global is saddened to announce that a body found in Tenerife appears to be that of Jay Slater. It is understood the body was found close to where his mobile phone was last located.

“Although formal identification has not yet been carried out, the body was found with Mr Slater’s belongings and clothes. An autopsy and forensic investigations will follow. LBT Global supports the family at this troubling time and asks everyone to allow them space and privacy to come to terms with the news.”

Jay’s last known words to a friend

Lucy-Mae Law revealed the last thing he said to her before their call ended shortly after 8am on June 17. During the call, he warned her that his phone had a low battery and that he was thirsty.

She previously said: “He went out one night, he went to a friend’s house, someone he met on holiday. One of the people he met rented a car from here, so he took them back to his apartment. and Jay went there without realizing how far it was.
