Liverpool’s players rated one excellent and one poor in Aston Villa’s collapse

Liverpool brought the curtain down on Jurgen Klopp’s away days with an entertaining draw at Aston Villa on Monday night.

An Emiliano Martinez own goal was followed by strikes from Cody Gakpo and Jarell Quansah as the Reds fought to a 3-3 draw in the Premier League.

Alisson Becker 7

Couldn’t do much about Villa’s goals and twice caused panic with wrong clearances but good saves from Zaniolo and Diaby second half.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 6

Moved regularly into a central midfield position early on, but was forced to defend more before the break and a more attritional second half. Denied by Martinez with a lightning bolt.

Jarell Quansah 7

Beaten by Watkins in the build-up to Villa’s first goal, but otherwise impressive and made some necessary first-half blocks and headed brilliantly for his first Premier League strike.

Virgil van Dijk 6

He had to put the afterburner on several occasions as Villa threatened with runners from deep. He came on as the home side pressed in the second half but could not stem the tide.

Joe Gomez 7

Many questioned him defensively before the interval, but he managed to push forward and put on the second. Covered well after the break as Villa pressed.

Wataru Endo 7

He was asked to do a lot of cover for the defense and wasn’t able to be everywhere at once before the interval, but a much better second half and missed a lot when he was substituted.

Harvey Elliott 7

He started brightly and saw his cross flicked on by Martinez for the opener and started to get stuck in defensively as Villa improved. Good free kick for the third goal. Reserved and replaced.

Alexis McAllister 5

Gave the ball away to trigger the leveler and looked out of rhythm for big plays. He stepped up slightly in the second half but then lost the ball to Villa’s second.

Mohamed Salah 6

Another who started well, involved in the opener and had the beating of Digne but faded a bit before the break. A succession of close second half moments.

Cody Gakpo 8

He continued his good recent form with an impressive display at the top of the line and struck second. Physically strong and good on the ball.

Luis Diaz 6

He played in the second goal and did well in the first half, but a better pass would have created a clear chance for Salah. Reserved.

Darwin Nunez (for Gakpo 75) 6

Pointless offside as Jones was sent off but looked sharp.

Ryan Gravenberch (for Elliott 75) 6

Not too involved after the introduction.

Curtis Jones (for Diaz 76) 6

Some good passes forward.

Dominik Szobszoszlai (for Endo 76) 7

Much better cameo and goal denied by the good Martinez save.
