Super League Disciplinary: Four players are banned by the Match Review Panel

It’s Monday again, which can only mean one thing: the Match Review Committee has made Super League disciplinary decisions after round 17.

Last week saw three players suspended, with James Harrison suspended for one match, while Brad O’Neill and Moses Mbye of Wigan Warriors and St Helens respectively were suspended from Friday night’s derby.

We’ve had more disciplinary drama this week – with ten sin bins and one red card handed out in the six Super League games this week.

In fact, it took just 58 seconds for the first booking to be handed out on Friday night, where Saints striker Matty Lees was penalized for a tackle on Wigan’s Kaide Ellis in a game that was filled with emotion .

Elsewhere on Friday, Rhys Kennedy was booked for dissent for London Broncos in Ebbsfleet, while the night before a professional foul saw Matty Ashton beaten for Warrington – while captain George Williams also received a card for an up shot.

There were four yellow cards in the Hull derby, with Elliot Minchella, Brad Fash, Tom Burgess and Denive Balmforth sent off for ten – and there were plenty of other moments the Panel scrutinized.

Meanwhile, Andre Savelio faced disciplinary action again as he was red-carded for Huddersfield Giants in their defeat to Leigh Leopards for a high tackle on Robbie Mulhern.

Elsewhere in that game, Chris Hill and Jack Hughes had also been booked for starting a brawl.

Andre Savelio received a two-match ban for Grade D head contact after a high shot on Robbie Mulhern.

Giants’ Sam Hewitt also received a two-match ban for grade D punching, while Leigh Leopards’ Edwin Ipape, from that game, has a grade B dangerous contact charge and will miss a game.

Salford Red Devils’ Chris Hankinson has a grade B head charge but will only be fined £250 – as will Catalans’ Bayley Sironen for grade B dangerous contact.

Hull FC’s Denive Balmforth is also fined £250 for late contact with passer – Grade B Dangerous Contact, as is London Broncos’ Rob Butler.

St Helens’ Matty Lees will receive no further penalty for the sin-bin but Wigan Warriors’ Adam Keighran will miss a match for Grade B Dangerous Throwing/Lifting and team-mate Ethan Havard is fined £250 for grade B head contact.

The RFL also confirmed: “Furthermore, and not shown in the minutes as no charge was issued, the MRP reviewed footage of an incident involving Hull FC’s Brad Fash and Hull KR’s Elliot Minchella in the match from Saturday. This incident was not reported to the match officials. Without any supporting evidence, the MRP determined that the available footage was insufficient to charge any reckless/intentional contact.”
