Rodley Nature Reserve is gearing up for Nature Quest Day

By David Nesham

Following the success of previous years’ events, Rodley Nature Reserve will hold its third Nature Quest day on Saturday 20 July.

The event is family-oriented, with activities for both children and adults ranging from moth catching to worm charmer.

The event will coincide with the ‘Big Butterfly Count’ which will be included as one of the activities and the butterfly conservation charity has kindly donated count sheets along with certificates for children taking part in the exercise.

In addition, there will be dissecting activities with owls, beehives, a bird walk including binocular training, pond diving, dragonfly identification and a wildflower walk.

Denise Swann, manager and event co-ordinator, said: “The event is designed to introduce the local community, and children in particular, to wildlife and in particular to species identification and an understanding of habitats and conservation.ion. This reflects one of the Trust’s core values.

“There will be 12 family activities, all overseen by our local experts to help and advise. There will be tea, coffee and cakes available in the Visitor Center and also a designated picnic area and we hope our visitors will make a day of it.”

The event takes place on Saturday 20 July from 10am to 3pm and additional parking will be available at Rodley Cricket Club and the adjacent William Merritt Centre.
