Dad says it’s ‘amazing’ as Leamington FC and Coventry City remember Keaton Slater

A young man killed in a shooting in Coventry was remembered this weekend when Coventry City played Leamington FC. Players have paid emotional tribute to the 12-year-old who died after being hit by a BMW on Radford Road.

Parents Clint and Louise and brothers Kai and Keanu captained both sides as Leamington FC played Coventry City XI in a pre-season friendly on Saturday (July 13). Organizers described the game as a “fitting way to come together to remember Keaton.”

Before kick-off, the two teams and the 552 people in attendance paid tribute to young Sky Blues fan Keaton, who was killed in a hit-and-run on Friday 14 June. Fans at the Your-Co-Op Community Stadium fell silent as they paid tribute to the 12-year-old, who was remembered as “handsome and fun-loving”.

His family subsequently received a collection of around £300. Dad Clint thanked Leamington FC and described the support they received as “amazing”.

Detectives are continuing to follow lines of inquiry in relation to Dolars Aleksanders, who is suspected of causing death by dangerous driving, West Midlands Police said. Crimestoppers has also launched a reward of up to £10,000 for information leading to the arrest of the 21-year-old, originally from Latvia.

In June, Louise and Clint made a direct appeal for information from the public to help the investigation and told Aleksanders to “do the right thing”. Louise urged those with information about his whereabouts to help them “get justice for Keaton”.

She said: “Hearing that whoever did this will not turn themselves in has left us all feeling helpless and we need to get justice for Keaton. We lost our little boy. Please, if anyone knows anything about his whereabouts, please come forward.”

Brother Keanu said: “I will never be able to see him joke with us again, I will never be able to see him grow up to my age, there are not enough words to describe what he meant to all of us. A best friend, a little brother, a son and now an angel.”
