The bomb squad called “grenade” found in the garden

A street in Cornwall is cordoned off following reports of grenades dug up in a garden. Residents in St Columb Major have been told by emergency services to stay in their homes while the bomb squad is called to the scene in West Park.


A member of the public said there were around 20 houses that were isolated, with some people having to walk across their neighbours’ garden to get to their home. They added that while six houses are inside the police cordon, the entire street is closed near Newquay.



It is understood a naval bomb squad has been alerted and is en route to the scene. Emergency services have been contacted for further information about the suspected WWII grenade.

Bomb disposal disposed of the suspected grenade.

Safe in a box and off they went quickly.

The houses in West Park predate the Second World War and were used to house military nurses.

A dug out neighbor and old cornish wall in the back garden, these houses have been here since before ww2. It used to belong to military nurses who sold victims and families.

20 “unaffordable” houses

20 houses in total, completely inaccessible locals on this street come through a neighbors garden and have to leave their vehicles elsewhere.

Man found grenade and ‘hid it in his van’

An eyewitness reported that a man had unearthed the suspected World War I grenade and “hid it in his van”. They said:

The pin and trigger are still in tact. One man was stupid, hid it in the van and then tried to take it to the hands of the officers. We currently have 6 houses in the police box, but the whole street is closed

Residents were told to stay indoors

An eyewitness told CornwallLive that a “grenade” was found in a garden. Residents were told to “stay at home”.
