Parents in England could receive £180 cost of living payment this summer

Parents can get £180 worth of living allowance this summer. Through the Household Support Fund, Lambeth council in London provides ‘support for families who receive free meals over the festive period. Families will receive this support directly from their child’s school.”

It committed “additional funding to boost council cash payments for low-income, most needy residents. Eligible residents will have received a letter detailing how to collect their payment’ and ‘funding for food banks and surplus food distribution sites’.

It also launched “specialised energy saving help and advice” and “additional funding for the Emergency Support Scheme for residents in an emergency or crisis situation, such as residents struggling to pay their bills or afford the food”.

Vouchers will offer discounts of up to £15 per week for each eligible child. This means a household with two children could receive £180 worth of support during the six-week school holidays. Households with three children could receive up to £270 in financial aid. School meal vouchers will be issued automatically by schools, with no application required.

Councilor Nanda Manley-Browne Cabinet Member for Equalities, Governance and Change said: The cost of living crisis continues to put huge pressure on the budgets of Lambeth residents. Prices for essential products are still much higher than they were in 2021, while household incomes for the most deprived are largely the same.

“This funding package will provide immediate relief for vulnerable residents, as well as help tackle long-term poverty and build financial resilience.” Lambeth Council said it will work to continue providing support for the next 12 months.

To fund the support programme, Lambeth Council is using our latest Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Household Support Fund allocation of £2.7m, alongside £1.3m of council funds.
