A man has appeared at the Old Bailey accused of murdering two men whose remains were found in suitcases on the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol and in a flat in London.

Yostin Andres Mosquera, of Scotts Road, Shepherd’s Bush, west London, is accused of murdering Albert Alfonso, 62, and Paul Longworth, 71, between July 8 and 10 in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.

The accused, a Colombian citizen, appeared via video link and was remanded in custody. He listened intently as his Spanish interpreter relayed the proceedings.

Mr Mosquera is due to appear in the same court for a plea hearing on 2 October.

Prosecutor Teresa Hay, who also appeared in court via video link, formally accused Mr Mosquera of killing the two men.

She told the court she was not aware of any links the defendant had with the UK apart from the deceased.

Mr Longworth was British and Mr Alfonso was originally from France with British citizenship.

Ms Hay told the court that Avon and Somerset Police were called to Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol shortly before midnight on July 10, where officers discovered human remains in suitcases which were linked to an address in Shepherd’s Bush , west London.

Police went to the London address in Scotts Road where they found more remains, the prosecutor said.

Following a major manhunt, the defendant was arrested at Bristol Temple Meads station at 02:15 BST on Saturday.

Mr Mosquera’s defense lawyer, Edward Hetherington, who also appeared via video link, did not apply for bail.
