‘We used to beat them’ – Arsenal man Oyegoke admits he never liked Tottenham

Arsenal’s Hale End Academy product and Nigerian-born England youth international Daniel Oyegoke has admitted his long-standing dislike of Tottenham Hotspur and expressed his desire to triumph over them in a game of pre-season at Tynecastle Stadium today.

Oyegoke, who joined Heart of Midlothian on a three-year deal from Brentford during the summer transfer window, faced Tottenham Hotspur on several occasions during his youth career at Arsenal.

Speaking ahead of the game, Oyegoke recalled his previous clashes with Tottenham Hotspur as an Arsenal player.

He expressed his dislike of Spurs and hope for victory during the game.

He was quoted by Football Scotland: “I’ve faced Spurs a few times. We used to beat them! It was always a good game for us.

“They tried to tell us the importance of the derby when you’re young. I’ve never really liked Spurs so hopefully we can try to beat them again!”

He continued: “Oliver Skipp is a few years older than me but I caught him when I was playing for Arsenal’s Under-21s. Dane Scarlett, who is there right now, is a very good friend of mine.

“I have quite a few friends there as I live nearby. Spurs have a good team and so do we. It’s a game we’ll use to build our fitness and hopefully beat them again! “

Born in Barnet, England, Oyegoke started his playing career at Barnet Academy as a striker. In 2017, he was also converted into a full-back after joining Arsenal’s Hale End Academy.

After completing his two-year scholarship, the Nigerian-born full-back turned down the option to sign a professional contract with Arsenal and opted to join Brentford instead.

During his three years at Brentford, Oyegoke was loaned out to Milton Keynes Dons and Bradford City to earn regular first-team game time.

However, he left Brentford without making a first-team appearance and joined Heart of Midlothian this summer, hoping to make a significant impact at his new club.
