Aston Villa see Premier League rivals jump queue for £25m transfer target

Aston Villa-linked attacker Jesper Lindstrom seems increasingly likely to make the switch from Napoli to the Premier League – but to Everton, who have entered advanced negotiations over a deal for the Denmark star.

Earlier this week, Unai Emery and Co were said to have been tracking Lindstrom. It is only 12 months ago that he secured a £25m transfer to then-Serie A champions Napoli, but was then forced to endure a nightmare campaign which included just three starts in all competitions.

While a fresh start under new Napoli boss Antonio Conte was an option for Lindstrom, a move to England was also mooted with both Villa and Everton said to be interested. However, it is the Toffees who now look likely to seal a deal.

“Negotiations with Everton are proceeding quickly, the agreement between the clubs is one step away on the basis of a loan with an option to buy which, if exercised, will lead to a total operation of €25m,” reports Corriere dello Sport via CalcioNapoli24 . “Now, it’s up to Jesper to find a personal agreement with the Toffees, but the feelings are positive.”

Everton’s interest is genuine, according to our sister site the Liverpool ECHO.

The Toffees are also in talks with Villa over the £50m transfer of midfield star Amadou Onana, and Emery’s focus has been getting that deal over the line, as is expected this weekend. But as one option is removed from the market, a gap that requires filling could soon open in Emery’s attack with Al-Ittihad pursuing the signing of £60m Moussa Diaby.
