The Tony Award-winning musical “The Sound of Music” is coming to Wakefield

The Tony Award-winning musical The Sound of Music will be performed this summer at Theater By The Sea.

The Sound of Music tells the story of a young postulant who is sent to serve as governess to the seven children of a widowed sea captain. Her growing relationship with the children, as well as her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the stern captain’s heart. The production features beloved songs such as “Do-Re-Mi,” “My Favorite Things,” “Edelweiss” and the iconic “The Sound of Music.”

Kim Sava, an original Broadway company member of Beetlejuice, leads the cast. She makes her Theater By The Sea debut as Maria Rainer. The cast also includes John Gardiner (Jersey Boys, A Bronx Tale), Kyli Rae (Jersey Boys), Amanda Hunter-Finch (Sunset Boulevard, The Sound of Music, After Midnight!, Flashdance, Anna Nicole and Porgy and Bess). and Thom Warren.

The Sound of Music will run from July 24th to August 17th, with preview performances on July 24th and 25th and opening night scheduled for July 26th. Performances are scheduled Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8:00 p.m., Thursday and Saturday at 2:00 a.m. and Sunday at 5:00 p.m., with special show times on Sunday, July 28 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., and a matinee special added on Wednesday August 14th.
