Manchester United Women trigger Nikita Parris’ contract extension

Manchester United have activated a one-year option on Nikita Parris’ contract to extend his stay at the club until 2025.

The 30-year-old forward’s existing deal had expired in June, with United having the option of a one-year extension.

Parris was United’s top scorer last season, scoring 16 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions.

Parris, who was part of England’s European Championship-winning squad, joined United from Arsenal in the summer of 2022.

She scored four goals in 21 appearances in the Women’s Super League during her debut season and became a more central figure in her second spell at the club following the departure of striker Alessia Russo, who joined Arsenal.

The Athletic reported that Parris turned down a lucrative offer from National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side North Carolina Courage in April to prioritize the FA Cup final in May, which United won with a 4-0 win over to Tottenham Hotspur to secure his primary piece. of silverware.

An agreement was reached between the clubs ahead of the April 19 transfer deadline in what would have marked a record sale for United’s women, with Parris set to earn £1 million ($1.29 million ) in a three-year contract.

However, Parris has made it clear he does not want to leave until after the Wembley clash. The Courage couldn’t guarantee they would wait that long and – with the forward refusing to miss the game – the switch fell through.

United have lost goalkeeper Mary Earps, captain Katie Zelem and winger Lucia Garcia to expiring contracts this summer.

They have completed three signings ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, with striker Elisabeth Terland joining from Brighton & Hove Albion, defender Dominique Janssen arriving from Wolfsburg and forward Melvine Malard’s loan from Lyon becoming permanent.
