The Super League transfer deadline is almost upon us, meaning clubs have a race against time to complete deals.

Warrington Wolves recently confirmed that Luke Yates has joined the club earlier than originally expected and Jayden Nikorima is set to join Salford Red Devils.

However, any further moves must be made before Friday, August 2, otherwise players will not be able to join their new sides before the end of the current campaign.

One side unlikely to do a deal before then is Leeds Rhinos, with sporting director Ian Blease recently suggesting they would not sign before the deadline despite appearing to be somewhat of an injury crisis at the moment – which prompted the recent loan moves of Matty Russell and Sam Eseh.

Blease said: “In terms of injuries, it means we are aware of the market and where we can strengthen. But we’ve got a good youth system that we’ll probably build on before we go into the market and there’s also not a lot available.”

Sam Burgess, however, suggested there could be other moves for Warrington Wolves, saying: “We’ve got a few more weeks, we’ve got a bit of space (for the salary cap) so we’ll see.”

This could see them make another similar move to Luke Yates as they try to solidify their position in the playoff spots ahead of the postseason games.

Burgess continued: “We’re pretty tight on the cap for next year at the moment. I promoted a couple and a few other guys (they got upgraded offers).

“I inherited this cap, so I’m doing the best I can with what I’ve got. It’s hard to make it all work sometimes, but – as it stands – it’s going to be pretty tight.”
