Footballer arrested in ‘rape’ investigation and faces other charges

A Premier League footballer arrested on suspicion of rape faces further charges linked to a second woman.

The Metropolitan Police did not name the player but said a 29-year-old man arrested in Barnet, north London, on Monday had been remanded in custody on further charges.

A statement from the force said: “On July 4, an allegation of rape against a woman in her 20s was reported to police.

“The alleged rape was reported to have taken place in June 2022.

“On July 4, a 29-year-old man was arrested at an address in Barnet on suspicion of rape and arrested.

“While in custody, he was also arrested on suspicion of two incidents of rape alleged to have been committed in April and June 2021 against another woman in her 20s.

“He was later released on bail until a date in August.

“Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”
