Chaos on streets of Leeds LIVE as angry rioting mob smashes up police cars | UK | News

Rioters have smashed Leeds with sickening violence in the street tonight as an angry mob forced the police to flee for their lives.

The raging gangs flipped over a police car in the streets of Harehills, a suburb of the UK northern city with a high proportion of people from ethnic minorities.

Footage shared on social media shows gangs of youths punching a police car’s windows and throwing objects at it with officers inside, before breaking into the windows while mobs look on and film the carnage.

One man can be seen picking up a child’s scooter and using it to hammer the police car’s windows. The car is eventually flipped by rioters.

Extended footage then shows huge numbers of police officers turn up to try to dispel the raging mob fighting in the street.

It is the same area that was infamously hit by the Harehills Riot in 2001, which broke out after the wrongful arrest of an Asian man, which sparked a six-hour long riot against the West Yorkshire Police.
