Reggae Girl Chantelle Swaby signs for Leicester City

Jamaican international defender Chantelle Swaby has signed a two-year deal with Leicester City, pending league and international approval.

The 25-year-old joins the Foxes on a permanent deal following her departure from FC Fleury 91 in France’s Première Ligue. Swaby brings with her 38 international caps, having competed in both the World Cup and Concacaf championships since her debut in 2018.

“It’s great to have signed for Leicester City. I know this is going to be a really good experience and a great challenge for me and I’m really excited,” Swaby told LCFC.com. “Playing as the home team at the King Power Stadium will be a completely different experience and I’m really looking forward to getting started with my team-mates and meeting the supporters.”

Born in Connecticut, USA, Swaby’s soccer journey began in 2016 with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at Rutgers University, where he also earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management. Her professional career began in March 2020 when she was drafted in the fourth round by National Women’s Soccer League team Sky Blue FC.

Swaby then spent a year with Rangers in the Scottish Women’s Premier League before moving to French top-flight side FC Fleury 91, where she made 33 appearances and helped the club to fourth place.

Swaby’s arrival at Leicester City adds invaluable experience to an already talented squad, strengthening the defensive unit at Belvoir Drive ahead of the club’s fourth consecutive season in the Barclays Women’s Super League (WSL).

The 2024-25 WSL season begins on September 21.
