Brent Livermore – Hockey – 2000, 2004

Brent Livermore

When Brent Livermore tells aspiring athletes what it takes to succeed at the highest level, he could easily be describing his years at Bond University.

“You have to use a growth mindset,” says the hockey legend, who won bronze at the 2000 Sydney Olympics before leading the Kookaburra to the ultimate prize at the 2004 Athens Games.

“This means you will always seek feedback, look for an edge and strive to establish a clear plan with development goals. With a growth mindset, you will seek continuous improvement and never settle for mediocrity.”

A midfielder who made his Australian debut in 1997, Livermore played over 300 matches for the national team, scored 30 international goals and won countless trophies in his glittering career.

These included three Champions trophies, Commonwealth Games gold in 2002 and 2006 and that epic golden goal win in Athens 2004, the first Olympic gold for Australia’s men’s hockey team after decades of near misses.

Following his hockey career, Livermore “used a growth mindset” to enroll at Bond, where he completed degrees in business, property and sustainable development and sports management, which he has since transferred into administrative roles and of a superior coach in the sport he loves. .
