TIGERS 58 KING’S LYNN 31

SHEFFIELD moved back into second place in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership thanks to a 58-31 win at home to King’s Lynn – their biggest of the season so far.

It was the fifth straight meeting in which the Tru7 Group Tigers broke the 50-point barrier at Owlerton with another dominant performance.

Already without captain Nicolai Klindt, the visitors were reduced to just five riders when Benjamin Basso crashed out of Heat Three and the Tigers, already two up at the time, continued to take full advantage.

Between sets four and seven they posted two 5-1 runs and a rare 5-0 run to open up a 27-14 lead.

Back-to-back split races followed before another 5-1 in Heat Ten, won by the returning Jack Holder, while guest Tom Brennan forced his way superbly past Grand Prix driver Jan Kvech at turn four to complete a maximum paid.

Chris Holder and Josh Pickering took the checkered flag in the next two heats before the action reached a new level in three fascinating final races.

King’s Lynn away pair no. 1 Justin Sedgmen and Niels-Kristian Iversen went 5-1 in Heat 13, but a stunning effort from the Holder brothers saw them both overtake their opponents in the closing stages as Chris secured a fully deserved maximum four trips.

Heat 14 saw skipper Kyle Howarth denied a race win on the run to the line when Kvech threw her around the boards at the final turn, before Pickering cut superbly to pass Iversen out of the final corner in Heat 15 for to record a 5-1 finish with Jack Holder.

The Tru7 Group Tigers will be looking to put their day’s woes behind them when they head to basement club Birmingham on Monday (July 22, 7.30pm).

SHEFFIELD 58: Jack Holder 12+1, Chris Holder 12, Josh Pickering 11+3, Tom Brennan 10+2, Jason Edwards 6+2, Kyle Howarth 4, Dan Gilkes 3+2.
KING’S LYNN 31: Niels-Kristian Iversen 13, Jan Kvech 9+1, Anders Rowe 7+1, Patryk Wojdylo 1+1, Justin Sedgmen 1, Benjamin Basso 0, Nicolai Klindt R/R.
