Sheffield United: Coulibaly chased by Beerschot

Sheffield United man Ismaila Coulibaly is wanted by top-flight Belgian club Beerschot this summer, according to Gazet van Antwerpen.

Sheffield United are preparing for another year in the Championship.

Chris Wilder’s side are back in the second tier after last season’s relegation.

The Blades urgently need to find some stability and will be hoping this year they can build on stronger foundations.

Coulibaly, 23, spent last season on loan in Sweden playing for AIK. He played in 13 games in all competitions for the Swedish club, scoring two and assisting one in the league.

He joined Sheffield United from Sarpsborg in 2020 but was immediately loaned out to Beerschot in Belgium.

The midfielder has yet to really feature for the Blades’ first team and could be on the move again this summer.

It has been reported that his former club Beerschot are in talks with Sheffield United to seal another deal for the midfielder to return to Belgium this summer.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

Cutting their losses

Sheffield United have yet to see the best of Coulibaly and it looks like they may never be able to do so given renewed interest this summer.

The report does not say whether the interest is a loan move or for a permanent deal, but again suggests Coulibaly is leaving England rather than part of the Blades’ plans.

Beerschot have just been promoted back to the top flight in Belgium and will be looking to re-establish themselves in the top flight.

It will be interesting to see if Wilder’s side allow Coulibaly to go again or if they try to use him consistently this season.

Finding stability

Sheffield United finished second the last time they were in the Championship.

However, as proved last year, they failed to gain promotion to the Premier League and were soon back in the second tier.

The summer window has been shut down until now due to ongoing takeover talks. However, the recent signing of Callum O’Hare is a good addition and fans will be hoping this is the first of several between now and the start of the campaign.

Wilder’s side always tend to be in the top six, but this season may not be the end of the world if they find their feet before trying to return to the Premier League.
