Birmingham loves a big screen – England’s city celebrations over the years

It wasn’t quite to be at Euro 24 – but it served as a reminder of how Birmingham come out when they play England. Imagine, in one of our wonderful public spaces, singing and celebrating as Gareth Southgate’s side leave Spain in the dust, holding up the trophy the boys have worked so hard to claim?

Birmingham is no stranger to celebrations on the big screen, we also had one for the King’s Coronation and the Commonwealth Games. But this year, even if the nation’s hopes come down to one last match, we won’t have any big public screenings outside of the EURO 2024 final, which takes place on Sunday 14 July at 8pm.

Birmingham City Council says it has no intention of hosting football tournaments and has not done so “for many years”. It added that there is “a wide variety of retail spaces in the city where fans can cheer on England”.
