Leeds: Eyewitness footage captured on Thursday (July 18) showed a massive riot in the northern English city. Leedswhere an angry mob set fire to a double-decker bus, smashed windows and overturned a police car.

Chaos broke out in Harehills, about 1 mile (1.6 km) northeast of Leeds downtown. In one clip, a heavy police presence could be seen, but the officers appeared to be outnumbered by a large crowd of protesters. Another clip showed people throwing various objects at a police car, including what appeared to be a scooter.

“We would strongly discourage residents from speculating as to the cause of this disturbance which we believe was instigated by a criminal minority intent on disrupting community relations,” the police department said in an update posted Friday (July 19). West Yorkshire.
