MAG’s Manchester and Stansted airports report record traffic for April – Business Traveler

Manchester Airport Group (MAG) has published its latest traffic figures, showing another record month for both Manchester and Stansted airports.

Manchester Airport celebrated its seventh consecutive month of record traffic, with 2.41 million passengers traveling through its terminals in April. The figure is up 10.9% on the same month in 2023 and 25,000 more than the airport’s previous record in April 2019.

The most popular destinations last month were Dublin (87,970 passengers), Amsterdam (85,288), Dubai (82,518), Alicante (78,694) and Tenerife (72,324).

Last week, Manchester Airport announced plans to reopen its private terminal, which has been closed since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Formerly known as PremiAir, the facility has been renamed “ether” and will reopen on November 4.

Meanwhile, London Stansted also reported a record April, welcoming 2.48 million passengers during the month – up 90,000 from its previous high in April 2019.

However, the East Midlands continues to lag behind the other airports in the group with 330,000 passengers in April, equivalent to 83% of traffic in April 2019.

Commenting on the news, Manchester Airport Managing Director Chris Woodroofe said:

“Here at Manchester Airport we are really proud to connect the North with the world. Over the last month it has been great to see so many passengers come through, taking advantage of our unrivaled route network of over 200 destinations, which gives them more choice than any airport outside of London.

“And the vast majority of those passengers had a great start to their journeys – with 93% waiting ten minutes or less to get through security. In fact, if you’re traveling with a carry-on and check-in online, chances are you’ll arrive at the airport and go straight through security in no time.

“What this means is that you’ll be able to start your holiday at the airport, walking straight into our departure lounges and enjoying the facilities we offer – whether it’s the award-winning architecture of the new Terminal 2, the new game point for fans of virtual reality and computer games in Terminal 1 or from the wide range of shops, bars and restaurants throughout the airport.”
