The new Chair of the London Council has been confirmed

Lambeth LBC leader Claire Holland is the new chair of London Councils.

Cllr Holland (Lab) was elected to replace Georgia Gould. Ms Gould (Lab) resigned after being elected as MP for Queens Park and Maida Vale and has since become a junior minister in the Cabinet Office.

Cllr Holland’s appointment was confirmed at the Council’s AGM in London earlier this week, which also saw the appointment of a new executive board (see below).

Cllr Holland is the leader of Lambeth LBC from 2021 and was previously Deputy Chair of London Councils and Acting Chair during Ms Gould’s maternity leave.

Cllr Holland said London Councils was ready to start “a new political era” by working alongside the government to “support a new mission-based approach to government”.

She added: “When we work together cross-party to support and serve our city and its 9 million residents, we can achieve so much.”

“We are determined to boost growth and end London’s housing crisis – that means building more homes, investing in infrastructure and ensuring local authorities have the powers and funding we need to deliver our ambitions for the capital.” , she added.
