Coventry braced for the ‘hottest day of the year’ as temperatures soar

Coventry will be sizzling today, with forecasters predicting highs of 29 degrees as the region enjoys its hottest day of the year so far. With sunshine and a bit of wind, it looks like a great start to the weekend and summer holiday.

But a warning has been issued for very high UV levels, so make sure you cover up and take sunscreen if you’re spending time outdoors.

A Met Office spokesman said the Midlands could expect a “beautiful Friday with lots of very warm sunshine”.

He added: A very warm and dry day with plenty of sunshine and just some fair weather cloud in the afternoon. A gentle breeze and very high UV levels. Maximum temperature 29 °C.”

And the good news is that tomorrow is expected to be almost as beautiful. Saturday may not be as warm, but there should be plenty of sunshine, although it may get unsettled later and there is a risk of ‘heavy rain goods’.

Sunday looks “fresher but mostly dry” and the rain looks set to return by Monday, although there should be plenty of sunny spells early next week.

Here is the hourly forecast for Coventry today, Friday 19 July.
