Thierry Henry’s claim that he is getting tired of watching Liverpool highlights the challenge facing Arne Slot

Thierry Henry perfectly encapsulated the challenges facing Arne Slot after stepping into Jurgen Klopp’s shoes as Liverpool’s new manager. Slott, in his first month as Reds boss, is tasked with not only emulating Klopp’s infectious personality but also establishing a style of play that earns equal respect from fans, pundits and rivals alike.

Under Klopp, Liverpool have become one of the most feared teams in global football thanks to his intense approach that has left many, including Arsenal legend Henry, feeling “tired” just watching them.

In February 2020, Henry, who now manages France’s national under-21 and Olympic football teams, praised Klopp’s footballing philosophy, reports the Mirror.

He said: “The intensity, the pace you have in the Premier League, is very high,” during an interview with French television channel Canal Plus. He added: “You see, when you watch Liverpool, even just watching them, you get tired.

“They move so quickly. When you go to Manchester City, before you look up, there is pressure on you. If you control the ball, there are already three guys around you. The intensity of the Premier League is huge.”

Slot’s approach to the beautiful game bears a striking resemblance to that of Jurgen Klopp, as both managers are known for their preference for a 4-3-3 formation. The Dutchman’s high-intensity tactics were evident during his tenure at Feyenoord, mirroring the vigorous pressing style synonymous with Klopp’s Liverpool.

Taking on a revered figure like Klopp is no small feat, yet Slot expressed his confidence, backed by assurances from his predecessors and Klopp’s right-hand man Pep Lijnders, that the promising young talent at Anfield should- ease his transition.

Ahead of Liverpool’s upcoming pre-season friendly against Preston North End on Friday (July 17), Slot shared his excitement: “I’m having a lot of fun. The pitches are great. The lads are full of energy; Pep (Lijnders) and Jurgen (Klopp) already told me last season that I would enjoy working with them and they didn’t lie at all.”
